Henry Sgrecci hails from Watkins Glen, New York and is in his third season with Musica Viva. He served for twenty-seven years as a trumpeter with The US Army Band, “Pershing’s Own” in Washington, DC. A career highlight was rendering Taps during Presidential wreath laying ceremonies at Arlington Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknowns in the presence of Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. After earning a Doctorate in Conducting from Catholic University, Sgrecci retired to work with young musicians as a high school orchestra director and as Director of the Washington Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. At Cedar Lane UU Church in Bethesda, MD Henry led a 40-voice choir, youth, children’s and handbell choirs. His annual benefit concerts with Cedar Lane’s musicians generated over sixty thousand dollars for local charities. Retiring as Music Director Emeritus in 2020 he moved with his wife, Susan Hertzler, to a small farm outside Winchester where he grows heirloom Bloody Butcher corn and watches auto races.
