Marty’s musical life began at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska where his roommate noticed his voice and urged him to audition for the college a cappella choir. Marty was subsequently selected for the “Cleff Dwellers”, a select swing choir, and continued to sing in choral groups throughout undergrad and graduate school in Nebraska. He particularly enjoyed singing Oratorios with the Lincoln Symphony Chorale.
Upon moving to Clarke County, Virginia, Marty sang with the Apple Valley Barbershop Chorus, the Front Royal Oratorio’s Society, and the Piedmont singers. He was one of the organizers of a new select chamber choir called Winchester Musica Viva in 1981.
Marty has experienced many musical “mountaintop” moments in far-reaching venues while traveling with Musica Viva, including England, Europe and even Cuba. He was married to Mimi on such a tour in Niederalteich, Germany in an ancient monastery with WMV providing a musical blessing on their marriage.
